Janielle Kastner is a writer, podcaster, actor, and performance deviser based out of Dallas, Texas.
Her medium is anything with words.



Janielle is a 2016 Mastermind (Dallas Observer) and was recently named Best New Playwright in Dallas Best Of 2016 (Dallas Observer). She is working on a new play commission from Dallas Theater Center, where she was an inaugural member of the Dallas Playwrights' Workshop with Will Power. Her play OPHELIA UNDERWATER was selected as one of TheaterJones’ Best New Play by Local Writers. Other plays include FEED ME (Stella Adler Theatre), HEAVEN’S GATES, HELL’S FLAMES, and SWEETPEA. Her plays have been produced by WaterTower Theatre’s 24 Hour Play Festival, L.I.P. Service Theatre Company, The 1 Minute Play Festival, and The Tribe, of which she was a founding member.

Her social engagement work largely centers around the role young women play in shaping their communities, and vice versa, such as MAY I (a walkable installation of young women's word manifested large-scale in Downtown Dallas), Project: GIRL a trans-media installation, and her solo-performance art Free Blessings for Women.
Additionally, she runs Dallas cult classic Movies That Should be Musicals, and has performed with Second Thought Theatre, Kitchen Dog Theater, Amphibian Stage Productions, The In-Laws, Theatre Three, Cara Mia Theatre, and Shakespeare Dallas. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Theatre and English from Southern Methodist University.
